Brave New World Project
For this project, our humanities class read the book "Brave New World", a book about a dystopia. After finishing the book and learning various things about dystopias, each student chose a writing piece to write on out of about 5 topics. Such as an analytic essay, a comparative essay, an artifact, or your own story. While we were writing our essays, we each made a visual piece to represent our writing piece.
This is the visual piece i created that represented my essay.

Model United Nations Project
In this project, each student was assigned a country that is in the United Nations. Each of us learned about two world wide issues, North Korea's nuclear weapons and Palestinian right of return. We learned about the United Nations, how it works, and wrote many research papers and resolutions on the two issues from our country's perspective. As we progressed, we focused more on Israel and Palestine right of return and created resolutions to end the conflict. At the end, for our exhibition, we held a Model United Nations conference discussing resolutions to the Palestinian problem acting as our country's.
Greek Tragedy Play Project
Project Description:
In this project each student chose a partner and a current social issue to research/ From there we learned about greek tragedies, what makes it tragic, and how the plays are formatted. We wrote our plays with our partner about the social issue we chose. Then we had the choice to make a graphic novel, video, or play and show it to the class at the end of the project.

Project Reflection1. What are you most proud of about your project and why?
I am most proud of the filming we did in our project. I was very busy so my partner Will and I could only film on one day. Will and I both brought in everything we needed to create our video. We had many responsibilities to keep track of and got every responsibility done, so I was also very proud of that. We were rushed but got all of the filming finished just in time to edit it, turn it in, and present it. 2. What challenges did you struggle with working with a partner and how did it impact the project? What did you like about having a partner to work with? Details. When Will and I started filming sometimes it was difficult to get a scene done. We would goof off or get off track and I would be the one to get us back on track. I was the one who would help memorize lines, fix costumes, and make scenes. It seemed that all the filming responsibilities were up to me, so it was a little overwhelming for me to be the boss of our movie. Having a partner had its bad sides, but it also had its good sides. When Will and I started writing our script we both had creative ideas. It was very beneficial to have more than just my opinion on our script and our film. It was also nice to be able to depend on someone else to help with my project so not all of the weight was on my shoulders. I am terrible with computers, so Will was the one who edited the video and uploaded it onto files. I was happy to have a partner on this project. 3. What could have you done as an individual to make the project better? Give specific details. As an individual I could have made more time prior to the filming to make sure we had enough time to film and get the video finished. As I said before, I could only film one day which was not useful to our project grade. I could also have brought better props in to class on the day we filmed. Some of the props were not very creative and didn’t look realistic, such as our wedding dresses and the wedding scene. They were not very evident. 4. What specific advice would you offer an incoming freshman about how to be successful at project-based learning? Be specific. My advice to an incoming freshman would be to always plan your work ahead of time so you know what you need to get done when. That was one of our biggest problems with this project. We didn’t plan enough ahead so we had to rush with our filming. Another piece of advice would be to be as creative as you can. Put your ideas into your project and never be afraid to add your own creativity. Save your evidence and always have something to back your work up with. |
